The table’s five criteria explained with examples, and the concrete way to pitch us a story so we read it to the end.
We get pitches most weeks and say no to most of them. Not on quality: on fit. These are the five real criteria, written exactly as we use them.
1. Verifiable command of a specific world
We are not looking for generalist commentators. We look for people who can explain, in detail, how a world works from the inside: how a transfer is negotiated, how a body is prepared, how a CV is read in seven seconds.
The test is simple: if your job has procedures almost nobody outside the trade knows, you fit.
2. A scar you can talk about
A mistake of your own with a name, a date and a lesson. It does not need to be dramatic. It needs to be real and you need to be willing to tell it.
Conversations where the guest only recounts wins age worst and get finished least.
3. A story that has not already been told
If you have done ten podcasts this year answering the same questions, the episode will sound like a repeat and we both know it.
This rules nobody out: it changes the angle. With heavily interviewed guests we look for the part of their trade nobody ever asks about.
4. Willingness to talk without a script
We do not send questions in advance. We talk for fifteen minutes beforehand to get to know each other and from there the conversation goes where it needs to go.
If you need a closed questionnaire and topic approval, this table is not the place and we will say so with respect.
5. You are not here to sell
You can talk about your company as much as you like: it is your story. What we do not do is turn an episode into an advert.
The practical rule: if your aim is for people to understand your trade, you fit. If your aim is for them to buy this week, there are better formats and we have them.
What does not count
Followers do not count. Job title does not count. Having been on television does not count. And nobody pays for a seat: we do not charge guests and we do not accept payment for interviews.
A sole trader with twelve years in the trade has better odds than an executive with a corporate script.
How to pitch us
The form on the site is the fast route, but what really makes the difference is the content. Three well-written lines beat a full deck:
- What you have built or sustained, with one number: years, people, customers.
- What you know that almost nobody outside your trade knows.
- One mistake of your own you are willing to discuss.
That is enough. We answer every pitch, including the ones that do not fit, within 48 hours.
